Commitment to the Environment

Builders Furniture is a member of the US Green Building Council and the Canadian Green Building Council and we employ a LEED Accredited Professional.

Unless otherwise specified, our products are manufactured using recycled and recyclable materials that can help our customers meet environmental standards in their projects and buildings, including the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification process. Builders Furniture products can be applied towards LEED for Commercial Interiors checklist items in: Construction Waste Management – through the use of reusable wood pallets and shipping blankets that are returned to the factory; Recycled Content – through products which contain more than 80% recycled material; Rapidly Renewable Materials – depending on projects specifications, materials which meet this criterion are used; Certified Wood – all our suppliers participate in the Sustainable Forest Initiative and also supply material certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and finally; Low Emitting Materials – unless otherwise specified all products are certified CARB Phase II compliant. Builders was recognized in 2008 as part of a USGBC pilot program that sought to specifically certify retail designs. We contribute to these processes by recycling more than 70% of our solid and liquid waste and participating in energy conservation initiatives in heating, lighting and power consumption.

Additionally, Builders Furniture is active with the Association of Retail Environments promoting and adopting environmentally healthy processes and products. We participates in educational information and committees with design professionals, contractors, and owners and is currently a member of the A.R.E. Green100 Sustainability Task Force and Green Materials Committee. Our company, Builders Furniture supports the Government of Canada in meeting its ecoENERGY program objectives to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and air pollution as a Natural Resources Canada’s CIPEC Leader.
